The Love Substitutes

Somewhere in 2004 a new band emerges in Antwerp. A couple of people on the Heavenhotel record label decide to get together to play a gig in the Wonderbar in Antwerp. Originally called 'I hate cameras', the band's members were Rudy Trouvé, Mauro Pawlowski, Craig Ward, Elko Blijweert and Bert Lenaerts. With such a superstar formation, needless to say, the place was packed at the time. The gig featured lots of great on-the-spot-improvisation work and heavy guitar noise-rock. Soon afterwards, the band got its more definite name The Love Substitutes.

It now consists of Mauro, who is a first-time drummer, Rudy Trouvé (guitar), Bert Lenaerts (bass) and Craig Ward (guitar). The album Meet The Love Substitutes While Your House Is On Fire was recorded in a couple of days time and released on Heavenhotel. Overall it got great reviews and the band started doing quite a few gigs. In December of 2005 The Velvet Sailor EP was released, on vinyl only, containing four songs and in 2006 they recorded full album More Songs About Hangovers And Sailors. A small series of gigs accompanied the record throughout 2007. But who knows, maybe they'll play again some gigs soon, whenever they feel like it. Be sure not to miss out!
